From Marilyn on 9th April 2008:

About Hazle Ceramics

These finely detailed, scale models of British heritage buildings are hand painted with themes of social history. Founder Hazle Boyles started the company from her Brentwood flat in 1990 and it is now based at Barleylands Craft Centre near Billericay in Essex. Having spent much of her childhood in Canada, on her return to Britain in the 1960s Hazle fell in love with British architecture and especially the myriad of small shops then to be found in London's East End, which were so different to vast Canadian shopping malls.

For more history see Hazle's House in Ceramic Focus.

About this Group

This group, for collectors of Hazle Ceramics and people who would like to find out more about them, has detailed online information. Marilyn and Chris started the web forum on 21st March 2003 using Yahoo Groups. We are independent from Hazle Ceramics Limited and views expressed don't necessarily represent those of the company. Hazle and Stephen are however members and sometimes add their own contributions. Like any eGroup we have two main facilities - a day to day email system and this website for longer term reference.

Group Emails

The system is currently hosted by Yahoo Groups with our web link on each email. Many articles begin as emailed questions and the web format reflects that. To help keep web sections compact, most original emails are edited for our site.

Joining the Forum

The simplest way to try out the forum is to have your email address added to the list by clicking the link on the side menu. You then have access to information and discussion that doesn't get uploaded to the website:

  • News updates as they happen
  • Answers to your own or other members' questions
  • Occasional special offers on ceramics

If our group doesn't suit there is an Unsubscribe facility at the bottom of every email.

Group Website

In the early years we archived reference material on Yahoo's web pages which required a password. Our own expanding website can be readily accessed and it is also more flexible for us to organise, update and add photos. The web sections are as follows:

Orientation Guide by model according to date of issue.

Need to Know has valuable info on pricing and many aspects of collecting.

Ceramic Focus gives details on specific pieces

Events currently shows all major Signings from 2003-6, the heydey period of Hazle events! There are full details of our very own Cyber Signings in 2004 and 2005, when overseas members felt remote from UK events. People suggested ideas for ceramics such as Keyboard Friends (featured in Ceramic Focus) and Hazle held Chat Room sessions. She believes these signings were unique in the collectables world.

What People Say includes comments from TV Antiques Expert Eric Knowles, articles and TV programmes, plus stories and displays from collectors.

Comments on New Website

From Clay on 4th October 2006:

A fantastic and welcome effort - thank you.

From Bob on 4th October:

I concur with Clay. The time and devotion to creating a website such as this indicates true allegiance to a project which all of us will be beneficiaries. Well done and thanks.

From Martyn on 4th October:

A great, professional website. I don’t think the presentation could be better. Clear and imaginative and easy to navigate. Nice background colours. Informative and educational. What else could one want?

From Jo on 5th October:

Wow! Things just get better. I love the new site; it is so user friendly too. Marilyn and Chris, you don't know how much I appreciate your hard work. Thank you soooo much.
